Antioxidant Defense System in Borago officinalis L. under Drought Stress

چکیده
Drought is one of the main abiotic stress factor that limits plant growth and development. effects on Borago officinalis L. (borage) plants in terms physiological antioxidant responses have been evaluated this study. In parallel with purpose, relative rate (RGR), leaf water content (RWC), osmotic potential, chlorophyll fluorescence (Fv/Fm), lipid peroxidation, hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) level, superoxide dismutase (SOD), peroxidase (POX), catalase (CAT), ascorbate (APX) glutathione reductase (GR) activities were determined under drought treatment a controlled greenhouse. RGR, RWC potential significantly decreased, while peroxidation expressed thiobarbutiric acid reactive substances (TBARS) H2O2 contents increased stress. On other hand, significant increases POX, CAT, APX GR did not prevent increase peroxidation. To best our knowledge, first study conducted enzymatic antioxidants defense system

Nitric Oxide Mediates Molybdenum-Induced Antioxidant Defense in Wheat under Drought Stress
Molybdenum (Mo) has been reported to alleviate drought stress by enhancing antioxidant defense in plants, but the underlying mechanism remains unclear. Here, we hypothesized that Mo mediates nitric oxide (NO)-induced antioxidant defense through Mo-enzymes, particularly by nitrate reductase (NR) in wheat under drought stress. The 30-day-old wheat seedlings cultivated in -Mo (0 μM Mo) and +Mo (1 ...
متن کاملModulation of Antioxidant Defense System Is Associated with Combined Drought and Heat Stress Tolerance in Citrus
Drought and high temperatures are two major abiotic stress factors that often occur simultaneously in nature, affecting negatively crop performance and yield. Moreover, these environmental challenges induce oxidative stress in plants through the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS). Carrizo citrange and Cleopatra mandarin are two citrus genotypes with contrasting ability to cope with the...
متن کاملStudy of antioxidant defense genes expression profile pattern of rice (Oryza sativa L.) cultivars in response to drought stress
Drought stress is one of the important factors that restrict crop production in the world. This study was conducted to investigate defense gene expression in response to drought stress, and also to evaluate the drought tolerance and its mechanism in rice cultivars based on randomized complete block design in two separate environments (drought stress and non-stress). The rice cultivars used incl...
متن کاملEvaluation of Drought Tolerance in Safflower (Carthamus Tinctorius L.)Under non Stress and Drought Stress Conditions
This study was conducted to determine drought tolerance genotypes with superiority in different stressed environments. To screening quantitative indices of drought tolerance, genotypes of safflower (Carthamus tinctorius L.) were tested in a complete randomized block design with three replications under two different water regimes (irrigated and rainfed). Significant positive correlatio...
متن کاملExogenous Melatonin Improves Antioxidant Defense in Cucumber Seeds (Cucumis sativus L.) Germinated under Chilling Stress
The relationship between exogenous melatonin applied into cucumber seeds during osmopriming and modifications of their antioxidant defense was studied. Accumulation of hydrogen peroxide, antioxidant enzyme activities and glutathione pool were investigated in embryonic axes isolated from the control, osmoprimed, and osmoprimed with melatonin seeds. Germinating cucumber seeds are very sensitive t...
